About the Department……
The Department of English of Cauvery College, Virajpet, established in the year 1980 has traversed along a glorious path, educating and enlightening the rural youth and launching them as befitting graduates to the highly challenging global scenario. Ever since its inception, the department has adopted new perspectives, helping the students to progress in all aspects. Presently, the department has a vast spectrum of students comprising of B.A, B.Com and B.B.A courses, The syllabus framed by the university of Mangalore, to which the college is affiliated, is duly followed.
The Department has two competent members of faculty. The faculty reaches out to the students round the clock and the response of the students has been tremendous. Special coaching and the cordiality existing between the faculty and the students have been instrumental in securing a near perfection achievement in results in the University examinations. In addition to the prescribed syllabi, the grammar aspects are stressed upon more by the faculty, enabling the rural students to win over the hitch of English language learning.
In addition to preparing the students to attain academic excellence, the department aims to promote their all round growth. In this connection the students are involved in a plethora of activities. The literacy club, established jointly with the department of Kannada, has been the right platform to showcase and nurture the creative skills of students. Besides, the Communicative English classes conducted with regard to the certificate course offered by the department have been highly beneficial to the students. Special coaching to advanced learners and remedial classes for the slow learners has revolutionized the aptitude of the students. The Language Lab also influences our students to polish their speech in English. The exceedingly improving performance of the students in tests and examinations give fillip to the teachers to perform better with an eager preparedness. Keeping in tune with the vision of the department to bring out the best in the students, class seminars, debates etc, are conducted regularly..

TEACHING METHODOLOGY: SAARC METHOD
(SURPRISE, AWAKEN, ALERT, RETAIN, CONCLUSION)
After continuous class for two or three hours students tend to lose interest. Spring a Surprise on them with a story or a joke or an interesting anecdote connected to the topic to awaken them and keep them alert and retain their interest till conclusion.
